What do you get with your trail pass?

Your number is your pass into ONE of the two trails! You may choose which one you want to go down. If you lose your trail pass, you will NOT be refunded and not allowed to enter the haunted trail.

How do I get on the other trail?

To plan ahead for access to any two MHF attractions (both trails in the woods or one trail + The Town), purchase a COMBO PASS online. Also, you can add an attraction on-site by visiting the Ticket Booth in our Front Circle waiting area. This costs extra and is not included with your trail pass.

Can we book in groups?

Group Reservations can be made for groups of 25 or more. EACH PERSON in the group will need to sign a WAIVER. The group leader (main contact person) will need to complete a GROUP FORM, and send a contract and deposit to Calleva IN ADVANCE. Contact MHF GROUPS for more information.

Do I have to pay more for other attractions?

Performances in the MHF Front Circle are FREE. If you choose to participate (rather than simply spectate) in the variety of Front Circle games & activities (See ACTIVITIES PAGE), additional tickets are available at the Front Circle Ticket Booth. You can also purchase a pack of 10 Activity tickets for $25 during online checkout.

Due to the nature of our event, our trails are not hospitable for wheelchairs or crutches. The trails are dark, uneven, with steep ups and downs. In many places the trails are very narrow, with low hanging trees and slim clearance between trees and doorways. Patrons with mobility limitations are welcome in the front waiting area, where they can enjoy the atmosphere and wait for friends going through the trails. This space is easier to navigate and there is entertainment, carnival games, and concessions available.

What is your Rain Policy?

Weather in the DC area is VERY location-specific – sometimes it’s raining downtown but not in northwest MoCo! MHF is usually open rain or shine.

If the Forest is closed due to extreme weather, news will be posted on our home page and our social media channels no later than 4pm.

If we are forced to CLOSE EARLY due to extreme weather, all patrons who are on-site will receive a rain check.

NOTE: Just like any outdoor concert or theatrical performance, if you don’t come out on a night we are open, you will NOT get a refund! TICKETS ARE TYPICALLY NOT TRANSFERABLE TO ANOTHER NIGHT.

How do you make the decision to close?

Since we are only open a select number of nights, we do everything possible to keep the trails open on scheduled nights! Lots of factors go into deciding whether or not we have to close, but patron & staff safety are at the top of our list. For example: if the parking lot is too muddy for cars to safely navigate, if the trails are too slippery for people to navigate, and if there are safety hazards that prohibit the use of the trail scenes, we will not open our gates.

If you are CLOSED tonight, what do I do with my ticket?

We will provide an alternate date for you to use your ticket or refund your purchase (see below).

How do the Refunds work?

Refunds will be processed at the end of our season (early November).

If you purchased a ticket for a night that we close due to weather AND YOUR TICKET REMAINS UN-USED, we will send an email at the end of the season for you to claim your full refund.

How do Fast Passes work?

Fast Pass holders have two great benefits:

- A shorter line at the MHF Main entrance (labelled FAST PASS HOLDERS); and

- No wait in our Front Circle area -- proceed directly to the Trail Entrance

NOTE:  There is always a short line at the trail entrance, which helps create spacing between patrons in the forest. A list of Fast Pass partners can be found on the check out page. We suggest making a reservation, especially for weekends in late October.

Fast Passes are available to ticket holders that dine-in at a participating Poolesville restaurant . The fast pass is good ONLY ON THE DATE OF YOUR TICKET! Each restaurant has a limited number of MHF Fast Passes, which MHF ticket holders can purchase for $5 each when paying the bill for their sit-down meal.

A very limited number of MHF Fast Passes are also available for online purchase via the check out page. Select FAST PASS instead of HAUNTED TRAIL. Fast Passes are sold for a $10 premium price. Prices range from $35-45, depending on the night.

What is a Hybrid Trail?

For MHF regulars, the hybrid trail can be a fun change of pace! It takes a little bit longer to walk, but it’s like a “Best Of” presentation that we offer on limited weekends, typically Opening Weekend, Halloween Night, and any nights after Halloween.

Our hybrid trail is a combination of our most terrifying and artistic Trail 1 and Trail 2 scenes. You’ll get up close and personal with some of our scariest trail ghouls as you walk through about 75% of each trail. This highly sought after infusion of our trails is only available limited nights. See HAUNTS page for this year’s dates.

  • Waiver: You must complete this waiver to enter the MHF. Download PDF Waiver Here .

  • Dress for the weather & wear shoes suitable for hiking through uneven trails.

  • Buy Activity Tickets in advance so you can enjoy games & test your nerve while you wait for your turn on the trails. (Activity tickets are available online via the check out page.)

  • No flashlights, alcohol or bad behavior.

After a long and scary ride through Poolesville, you park in the middle of a field and walk towards the lights and ticketing. There are parking staff to direct you.

There is no additional charge for parking. We can accommodate cars and buses.

Follow the lights from the parking lot to the MHF Entrance, where you will exchange your Trail Pass bar code for a numbered wristband, which indicates your order for entering the trail.

If you lose your wristband you will NOT be refunded and not allowed to enter the Haunted Forest.

  • If you bought your ticket on-line, have your barcode ready to be scanned!

  • Fast Pass ticket holders have a separate line.

  • If we are not sold out, on-site purchases are available. All on-site purchasers will be directed to the WAIVER LINE.

FRONT CIRCLE (the MHF waiting area):

The MHF Front Circle is a high energy setting with huge bonfires, music and activities. You’ll wait here for your number to be called on the loudspeaker and displayed on a sign near the trail entrance. From there you will get in a short line for your turn onto the trail.

If you are with friends whose wristband number is different from yours, you must wait until the higher number is called. If you miss your number, that’s okay! You can enter the woods ANY TIME AFTER YOUR NUMBER IS CALLED, just not before!

What is the typical wait time before we can go to the trail?

Wait times depend upon the size of the overall crowd as well as the number of GROUP RESERVATIONS on a given night.

Wait times are MUCH LONGER after 9pm.

Wait times are MUCH SHORTER early in October – the second & third weekends are optimal!!

We offer entertainment & activities to pass time, but if you absolutely HATE WAITING, the fastest way to the trail is to arrive early in the evening – we open at dusk and the trails open as soon as it’s dark!!

We have a full menu of delicious concessions! From our delicious chili to the legendary MHF fries, you’ll eat ‘til your heart’s content. Most of our food is from what was raised or grown right here on the Calleva Farm, and the concessions stand accepts cash or credit.

What are some tips to make sure the forest is a great experience?
  • Follow the lighted path.

  • Keep your hands to yourself – although we can touch you, you cannot touch us!

  • No Smoking and Drinking – or you will be escorted out of the forest.

  • Keep Moving – You can pass slow groups. Please DO NOT BLOCK the trail. Step to the side if something is wrong and one of our staff will assist you. Stopping on trail causes back-ups and ruins everyone’s experience!

  • Watch your Language – this is a benefit performance for our camps and outdoor programs and we expect you all to show some self-control.

  • No Cell Phones or Photography… on the trail. You would not believe how many cell phones get lost on our long, winding, dark trail through the woods. When we find phone the next morning, they’re often trampled and ruined. PLEASE tuck yours away in a zippered pocket!!

Do you offer Military Discounts?

Yes!  You can purchase tickets onsite for $25 with a valid Military ID.

Where else can I get discounts?

If you see us at an event or parade, get a flyer with a discount code!

Where do I go if I lose something?

Please email HauntedForest@calleva.org and let us know what you’ve lost. If we find it, we will get in touch with you.

NOTE: If you lose your trail pass, you will NOT be refunded and not allowed to enter the haunted trail.

Is there an age limit for walking the trail or town?

The Woods, The Hollow, and The Town are scary events and we do not recommend anyone under the age of 12 to participate. Ultimately, you know your children and what you deem appropriate, but we don’t want to be the cause of your kids’ nightmares!

For an upper age limit, keep the following in mind:

The trails are very dimly lit. The trails are steep and uneven. Patrons must cross bridges, tunnels, tight spaces, go up and downstairs and ramps. There are strobe lights, open fires, and since this is an outdoor event; there can be any and all animals/wildlife present on the farm and in the woods.

Oops! I bought passes for the wrong date or something has come up and I will need to change the date of the ticket?

If you purchased for an incorrect night or if you suddenly have a conflict on the night of previously purchased pass we ask that you purchase additional passes for the night that you can attend. Once you’ve done this, send the pass order that needs to be canceled to HauntedForest@calleva.org and we will refund and void those passes.

What is your refund policy if something comes up & we can not attend at all?

Consider it a donation to CALLEVA. The funds raised through Markoff’s Haunted Forest go towards a variety of Calleva programs, scholarships, school discounts, and developmental projects.
